Could this be you?!
The Ghastling is looking for a freelance editorial assistant to join the team at Ghastling Towers.
Think you could be ghoulish enough? Read on…
This will be working from home, however, ideally I am looking for someone based in Wales or nearby as the magazine and editor are based here and we do intend to hold in-person meetings and events from time-to-time.
Role would suit:
Someone looking to develop or kickstart a career in publishing, commissioning and editing.
Someone with a proven interest in the horror realm.
You will have a meticulous eye for detail and excellent literacy skills.
Someone with a creative outlook.
What does the role entail?
This is part time as the magazine is only published twice a year. You will work in your own time but you must be available during the months of production, usually between: January to March and July to September.
You will be given a schedule of deadlines and be expected to work to the set deadlines – though some flexibility may also be needed due to occasional goblins…
You will be paid per issue. Please include your rates in your application.
General duties:
Assist the editor with selecting and commissioning stories.
Liaising with authors over proofs, edits and feedback. Proofing and preparing stories in the house-style ready for submission to the typesetter. Proofing and checking the final draft and liaising over any edits and changes with the designer. Upload each magazine onto the shop page on the website when it is ready. Some occasional general cog-maintenance of the creaky doors at Ghastling Towers!
General Desirables:
Understanding and enthusiasm (!) for spreadsheets Enthusiasm for social media
Adept with Google docs and adobe
Understanding the remit of arts funding
Understand the limitations and advantages of working with a small independent press Experience/knowledge of using WordPress Self starter
If you think you’ve got what it takes to withstand working in our haunted mansion, please apply in writing with a cv and covering letter outlining your interest and suitability, as well as a brief sentence listing a couple of your favourite horror books and why, and submit to:
