This is a modern ‘Penny Dreadful’ and a dip into the darker things that lurk behind us; a place where we can meet and share those ghouls alike, after all, it’s no fun being frightened, hiding under the bed, unless, of course, you are the one doing the haunting…
Please submit unpublished ghost stories & tales of the macabre, the oh-so-strange (no longer than 3,500 words – no minimum) as a WORD document. Artists and Illustrators please email with a sample of your work before submitting. Be as creative and ghoulish as you like but please read the blurb on the ‘About’ section to see what we like. Please send via email as an attachment to Rebecca Parfitt by 11th February at:
A magazine of ghosts, the macabre and the oh-so peculiar. We are looking for literary fiction, illustration that chills, shivers, surprises and horrifies.
Who do we like?
M.R. James, Charles Dickens, Henry James, Susan Hill, Walter de la Mare, H.P. Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury, Jules Barbey d’Aurevilly, Edgar Allen Poe, Wilkie Collins, Jeannette Winterson, Sarah Waters, E. Nesbit, Helen Dunmore, E.F. Benson and Shirley Jackson.
Topics we like:
tales of the occult, black magic, superstition, folklore terrors and circus sideshows.
We don’t like:
Twilight or any associated texts e.g: Dark Romance, and terrible clichés of any of the above! No gore please, we favour the psychological rattling of our brains…
The editor works alone in the small hours in a tiny room in the top of ‘Ghastling Towers’- unless she is interested in your work, you will not hear from her. Don’t be disheartened, you are always welcome to try again.
Please note: It is regrettable that we still don’t have the money to pay our contributors – we can only pay in hauntings. This is however something we hope to change and supporting the mag by purchasing a copy will go a long way towards making this happen.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Any questions please get in touch.
